I don't cook, but my mom and my wife do. Growing up, my mom was obsessed with DIY oil sprayers. Every single one she bought broke after five uses, but she kept buying them because she claimed it was way cheaper than buying PAM. (As a kid, I was like, "Why hire a lady named Pam to put oil on your food?") Then I got married and started paying for groceries. My wife grew up pretty affluent, so she knew PAM well and introduced me to it. That’s when I learned two things: A, Pam is cooking spray, and B, it is WAY more expensive than buying regular oil. I was making ten bucks an hour back then, so paying a premium for sprayed oil felt ridiculous. I showed her my mom’s budget sprayers, but she shut it down: "Nope, I need PAM." So for years, we bought PAM. Then out of nowhere, my wife fell sick and was put on a strict health diet—meaning zero PAM allowed. She had to switch strictly to pure olive or avocado oil, which cost three times as much! I brought up the idea of an oil sprayer again. She pointed at this model. I said, "They're all garbage. It'll break in two weeks." I bought it anyway. Fast forward several months, and this thing is still working like a total champ! I have no idea how manufacturers finally solved the design flaw. On the old sprayers my mom used, you had to manually pump them up, and that pump mechanism was always the first point of failure. If the pump didn't snap, the micro-thin dip tube would get completely clogged with thick oil. Somehow, this new one got it right.
